My Best and Worst Reads of 2024, Plus 5 Books to Help You on Your Healing After Abortion Journey

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a book discussion again! When I first started the ministry, I’m going to be honest – I had no real idea what I was doing. I had someone recently tell me they listened to the first episode of my podcast and loved it and were planning on listening to the rest and, while I definitely think there are MANY helpful episodes (how are we at almost 200 episodes?!) I still cringed because at the beginning of this journey, I definitely had some misses.

We’ve come a long way my friends, we’ve definitely grown up a bit over the last couple of years. But, sometimes I think it’s nice to have a break-ish from the abortion content SO I thought we’d talk about one of my favorite things today – which is BOOKS. And don’t worry, I’ll still keep it relevant by giving you a quick list at the end of 5 of my favorite books that can help you on your healing after abortion journey.

I set a goal this year to read 50 books and had a stretch goal of 60 books. Then, life happened. I’ve shared previously about how hard the first half of this year was. My little family was sick constantly. My husband missed more days of teaching school last school year than he has any other year of his 9 years of teaching so far. It was ROUGH and there were many times I wondered if we were being taught some lesson. We had a pretty stressful summer too with lots of medical visits, and so quite honestly I didn’t get much reading done in that time. Yep, 2024 is probably one of the hardest years I’ve had in a really long time, but I am so incredibly thankful for how God carried us through and I’m thankful that, even though I didn’t quite hit my goal of 50 books, I still had plenty of time to enjoy reading instead of becoming addicted to hustle culture again. I’m really doing my best to stay FAR away from the hustle culture I was in a few years ago!

What about you? Do you like to read? If you do, I would love to invite you to be my friend on Goodreads! You can follow me by clicking here. Let’s be friends and nerd out over books together!

I’m going to split this up into about 4 different lists for you. I’m going to give you my top 10 favorite books I read this year, my 5 least favorite books, 2 books I’m starting 2025 with, AND we’re going to end with my 5 favorite books that you can take with you on your abortion healing journey.

Here we go! Let’s start with my top 10 favorites:

I read all 3 of the Housemaid books this year and they were some of my favorites! I recommend all of them!

This one was AMAZING and, I even had a chance to be a guest on Blake’s podcast of the same title! You can listen to that interview here.

All three of TJ Newman’s books are SO GOOD. I read all of them this year and I recommend them! (Unless you’re afraid of flying)

Such a great story that was fairly clean and PG-13!

LOTS of language, but a great book. It was great to read about the Vice-President Elect and how he was raised!

A great mystery that was pretty PG-13 and not overly graphic!

Such a great read – I absolutely love Tulsi. Highly recommend!

Kristin Hannah is such a compelling author. The Women is probably my top read of 2024 followed closely by The Nightingale!

Every single one of Riley’s books never disappoints!

A great book for any Christian, it addresses spiritual abuse and is super great!

5 Least Favorite Books:

2 Books I’m Starting 2025 With:

I attended a screening of the documentary that goes along with this book and it didn’t disappoint! It’s shocking and powerful. Can’t wait to read the book!

I read Allie’s other book a few years ago so I am excited to read this one! The first chapter addresses the lie that “abortion is healthcare.”

5 Books to Take With You for Abortion Healing:

Such a great first book to read when you decide to start your healing journey!

Consists of stories from post-abortive women as well as other people involved in abortions. Such a great book!

Written by a post-abortive woman herself, and so comforting!

I lead Bible study groups around this book and couldn’t recommend it enough!

This is a work of fiction, and is written by an independent author. I was gifted this book and it was a good read!

Again, don’t forget to friend me on Goodreads so I can see what you’re reading! You’ll be able to see what I’m reading too and it’s super fun! If you have a chance, I would love to know what you’re going to read this year. Feel free to follow me on IG too and send me a DM with what you plan to read in 2025!
